BILL MARTIN JR (1916-2004) Martin was known as America's favorite children's author. He wrote more than 300 books for children, including the classics Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Sampson, who holds a Ph.D. in Literacy from the University of Arizona, is dean of the School of Education at St. John's University in New York City. He lives on Long Island with his family.
