Kathryn Cave

As the youngest of four children, Kathryn Cave spent her early years being willfully misunderstood and ignored by her brother and sisters. As a result, she developed a crew of imaginary friends--wolves, dragons, aardvarks, trolls--who did exactly what she wanted. After university, she worked in publishing for many years before she started writing her own books for children, which include Something Else, the 1997 recipient of the UNESCO Award. She died in 2021.

Nick Maland studied English and drama at London University and planned to be an actor. His early art career involved creating sets and posters for play, followed by a time creating artwork for newspapers and magazines. Today, he is the illustrator of numerous books for children and lives in England.
