Old MacDonald had a… drone? He will—on the farm of the future!
The day starts early on the future farm, where smart tractors plow the land and robots plant the seeds. Our farmer gets ready to explore her land with a drone, while cows are happily pasturing in the fields. This is not Old MacDonald's farm. This is a farm of the near future, where vegetables will grow in vertical structures and fruit is carefully picked by robotic arms! And at the end of the book, it all comes together at home, where a family enjoys juicy strawberries from their smart refrigerator.
Kids will be delighted with this new take on the good-old farm and will learn how farmers and animals interact with high-tech gadgets. The last spread of the book contains a simple glossary where tots and parents can read the definitions of some more advanced terms.

PreS-K--In Cordeiro's joyful pastorals, tomorrow's farm looks a lot like today's farm and yesterday's farm, with a bright red barn and chicks pecking in the yard. But the farmer is a young woman with brown skin and a straw hat who carries a tablet; drones check on her land; her smart tractors are battery-powered and driverless; tracking devices measure the health of her animals; and she takes stock of conditions via a computer console in the morning before starting her chores. The book also touches on vertical farming, in labs, with robotic arms handling most of the picking, and how hydroponics can lead to consumers eating vegetables they grow at home without soil. VERDICT It's a bit of a stretch to label this the future, when driverless irrigation, drones, and robots are already features in farming; but as a gentle glimpse of agriculture, why not start here?
