Gr 2-4--A thorough and engaging look at the Amazon Rainforest. Readers are given a solid overview of the major concepts, including location, size, and the four distinct layers that make up the Amazon Rainforest, with special attention paid to the Amazon River. A methodical introduction to the river and the layers of the rainforest gives way to a flow of action, grounded with sensory words that help make the setting come alive. Interesting animals are shown in action for one of the four layers, but the brisk pace still allows for careful pronunciation guides of unfamiliar words. A final segment on the current state of the rainforest, the impact it has on our lives, and ideas for further involvement is welcome, if a little brief. A glossary covers terms needing further clarification for readers of this level. VERDICT A solid choice for every nonfiction collection in need of more rainforest titles.--Savannah Kitchens, Chilton-Clanton Public Library, AL
