School Library Journal

Gr 1-4--What would you do if the library in your school was scheduled to be closed due to budget cuts? Einstein the Class Hamster and the kids of Boerring Elementary spring into action to help save their beloved library from being closed. The mother & son writer/illustrator team return with another crowd pleasing look at Einstein the Class Hamster. School libraries are always in danger of being shut down these days. This look at a very real problem will hopefully open their eyes to fight to keep their library open (although the way and the relative ease in which this is achieved is a bit unrealistic). New readers will have no problem following along with Einstein's adventure. Kids will respond to the silly humor and child friendly illustrations. Einstein's game show interludes and "Einstein's Tasty Tidbits" provide a lot of facts that are further explored in the backmatter.

Review quotes

"Meet Einstein, class hamster and Alex Trebek wannabe. Einstein's Tasty Tidbits appear throughout, offering fun, informative, and occasionally disgusting facts (for instance, it's difficult to know if the waste from whales is vomit or poop). Tashjian's son Jake provides the line drawings that, while perhaps not the most artistic (Einstein looks a lot like Mr. Potato Head), are the most hysterical. A clever gigglefest of a series starter." —Booklist

"* Give this to kids who think they don't like reading. It might change their minds." —Booklist, starred review on My Life as a Book

"* A kinder, gentler Wimpy Kid with all the fun and more plot." —Kirkus Reviews, starred review on My Life as a Book

"Sure to engage fans of Jeff Kinney's 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' books as well as those looking for a spunky, contemporary boy with a mystery to solve." —School Library Journal on My Life as a Book

"Another fun, emotionally resonant read for the Wimpy Kid set and beyond." —Kirkus Reviews on My Life as a Stuntboy

"A fast-moving plot and relatable protagonist make this stand-alone sequel a good choice for boys who, like Derek, would rather reach for a TV remote or game controller than a book." —School Library Journal on My Life as a Stuntboy

"Fans of the first will be utterly delighted by this sequel and anxious to see what [Derek] will turn up as next." —The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books on My Life as a Stuntboy

"This is a great package for kids, especially those like Derek who don't think they like to read." —Booklist on My Life as a Stuntboy
