The power of varied repetition hooks even readers who aren't truck aficionados in a title that initially seems as literal as they come: opening spreads show one truck being towed by or loaded on another ("Blue truck on red truck. Red truck on blue truck," writes Fairbank). But the arrival of less commonplace fare--a pink vehicle sporting painted daisies, and a green truck interacting with nothing at all--raises questions about what combination will turn up next. One answer: a porcine-shaped food truck, complete with curly tail ("Pig truck"), being hauled by a bright yellow and orange, semi with dual exhaust stacks ("on big rig truck"). Henderson's gouache and digital art employs screen-print-like textures and a midcentury modern playfulness, with lots of strong shapes and whimsical details that draw plenty of laughs. Ages 4-8.
