Gr 5 Up--Everyone loves a good heist and this title explores some of the best planned and executed heists of the past century. From Peruggia's theft of the Mona Lisa through Brazil's Banco Central robbery in Fortaleza, each crime is presented in an attractive newspaper-style format that details background information, step-by-step walkthroughs, and fallout. The color work and engaging illustrations (no photographs are provided) distinguish one section from another and allow readers to hop between the different robberies on display. Unfortunately, the translated writing does not live up to the high standards set by the graphic design. The dry prose lacks detail and the rigid format can become repetitive by the time the final case wraps up. As such, it is hard to become invested in any individual case or the many fascinating personalities involved. This is compounded by a lack of back matter. There are no sources listed and no recommendations for further reading to be found. VERDICT An excellent premise in an attractive package is hurt by a lack of depth, repetitive presentation, and missing back matter. Only recommended for libraries with the most comprehensive true crime collections.--Nate Hipple
