PreS--Bluey, a Blue Heeler puppy, and her family appear in the popular Australian animated children's television show, Bluey. In this picture book, it's Christmas morning and the multigenerational family has gathered at Muffin and Socks's house. Bluey is helping Mum hand out the presents, and everyone seems to get the perfect one. When Bluey is gifted a toy Heeler, she names him Bartlebee and immediately introduces him to the family as they prepare to swim. Their interactions don't go smoothly, though, and she imagines Bartlebee wants to go home. Bluey's Aunt Frisky connects with the family online and gives Bartlebee some encouragement and advice about being new in the family. This book highlights several elements that will resonate with children, such as imaginative play. For instance, readers will see how Bluey uses creative play to imagine the new toy and her wild family enduring a "crocodile attack." Children will also relate to the fear of being excluded, love of family, and Christmas excitement. VERDICT Give this to children who enjoy Paw Patrol and the Australian import because of the humor and likability of the characters.--Tanya Boudreau
