PreS-Gr 2--A curly haired girl delays her bedtime as her bleary-eyed papá takes her through their typical routine. It may be bedtime, but boisterous Paz is nowhere near sleepy. Her burly and bearded father on the other hand can barely keep his eyes open. Every time he reminds her that it's bedtime and he's sleepy, she suggests another activity. After reading seven books, building a whole city from blocks, taking a bubble bath, and hugging the cat, Paz begins to lose steam. She's already brushed her teeth and has a cup of water by her bed and a stuffy tucked under the covers. Her daddy promises to stay with her for a few minutes until she falls asleep, but he's the one who knocks out first, while she looks on as she chomps on some cookies and reads another book. Certainly a story we've seen before, but what sets this apart is the fantastic, bright art by Pereyra, who is credited as Pupé on the cover. From the lively patterns on the furnishings and clothing to the characters' amazing hair texture, every detail comes together perfectly to create a warm and welcoming home that kids will want to visit again and again. Papá's expression is the exact replica of every parent of energetic kids at the end of the day. Plus, the relationship between father and daughter is the sweetest. VERDICT A great choice for all Spanish-language bedtime collections.--Shelley M. Diaz
