PreS-Gr 1--In this latest addition to the "Critter-Cam" series, Monkey wakes up hungry. From sliding down a giraffe's neck to swinging on a snake, Monkey is determined to find something to eat. An altercation with a lion looks to ruin the fun, but this story has a happy ending, with Monkey finding a coconut. Young readers will laugh and look forward to the next event in Monkey's adventure. Large, easy-to-read font, with three words per page at most, gives early readers confidence in their ability to parse through the text. Bright, bold illustrations fromYaccarino showcase the action as it unfolds, as well as the viewpoint from Monkey's camera. The running joke of the battery in the camera slowly losing power as the story progresses will guarantee a chuckle from caregivers viewing the book with children. VERDICT Once again, the dynamic team of Palatini and Yaccarino have created a story that is not only appealing to children but also fun for adults. Recommended for all collections.--Maria Graybosch
