by James Kochalka (Author)
Even "the best little ghost in the world" gets bored sometimes! But in the award-winning Johnny Boo series, fun is never far away. For instance, check out this magic hammer...
Johnny Boo lets Squiggle borrow his magic hammer so Squiggle can work on a mysterious project, but that leaves Johnny Boo with nothing to do today. He has lots of great ideas about how to spend his time while he waits, but -- oh NO! -- ends up getting bored of each and every one of them. Not to worry, though. Joined by Squiggle, the Ice Cream Monster, and a BIG new friend, Johnny Boo will still have a hilarious adventure... and maybe even learn something about sharing! It's the perfect book for any bored kid, from Eisner-winning cartoonist James Kochalka.

PreS-Gr 1--When Johnny Boo has to give up his magic hammer to his friend Squiggle, he not only discovers the lesson of sharing but also learns about the importance of staying busy. Although this marks the 14th book in the series, Johnny Boo is still as sharp and adorable as ever, and this stand-alone story makes for a great jumping on point to the series at large. Kochalka has a Mo Willems--like ability to take a limited number of sight words and make them into a genuinely funny book. Thick outlining and simple character design makes the piece approachable and similar to related titles, such as the "Narwhal and Jelly" books by Ben Clanton. VERDICT Lighthearted and silly with a good message, this title is part of a great series waiting to be discovered.--Peter Blenski
