PreS-Gr 1--Pia loves to eat, and Pia's family loves to make food together. However, there's a breakdown in communication about what Pia, the youngest in her family, wants to eat: her family thinks she likes pizza, and Pia most certainly does not. The crisis is quickly averted as the family, who have all contributed vegetables to building a pizza, use the vegetables to make some delicious tacos instead. This story contains hallmarks of early readers, including simple dialogue and familiar topics--food preparation and preferences are at the center of the story and can be great discussion starters for children. VERDICT The tension in this easy reader is low stakes and easily resolved, but the warmth of a loving family and the beautiful, colorful vegetable imagery stands out.--Jennifer Miskec
