February is one of my favorite months as a teacher. I know my fifth graders so well, and our classroom community feels magical. During our first six months together their reading preferences have evolved so much. They have found new books, authors and series to fall in love with. Many of them are reading books that will stick in their hearts forever. I read aloud picture books about hard topics one day, and a book that makes us crack up laughing the next.

The possibilities of what is possible in the second half of the year fill me with so much hope. We have worked so hard to get to this point with the kids we serve. Thank you for all that you do to help young readers fall madly in love with books. It is important work, and they are so lucky to have you in their hearts. LET'S GO!!!!

Five books Colby Sharp recently read to his fifth graders that they absolutely loved!
